Chinese New Year Cultural Fair 2017
Tuesday, 24 January 2017
Mark the Year of the Rooster in 2017 with style and fun! Come along to a celebration event put on by the Chinese Welfare Trust for an auspicious beginning of the lunar Chinese new year. It promises to be a cultural feast of the senses. Experience the elegance of a tea ceremony, immerse in Chinese music played on a plucked string instrument with more than 2,500-year history, and witness the art of Chinese calligraphy unfolding in front of your eyes. We will also have a range of craft and fun stalls, so there is something for everyone. What’s more, it’s all for a good cause: all proceeds will go to support the charitable work of the Trust to help vulnerable Chinese elderly in the UK.
At the Cultural Fair you can take part in interactive activities such as:
- Chinese paper-cutting
- Chinese brush painting
- Chinese wine-tasting
- Chinese jiaozi (dumpling) tasting (sponsored by FreshAsia Dumplings)
- Chinese calligraphy-writing
- Chinese tea ceremony
We will also have a Chinese jewellery stall, a tombola stall, and Chinese imperial costumes available for guests to dress up in and have a photo taken in exchange for a donation.
All activities will take place against a backdrop of atmospheric live guzheng (Chinese zither) music. Ticket price: £10 to include light refreshments; free for children under 12
Venue: The Atrium at Bright Courtyard Club (two minutes’ walk from Baker Street Tube Station)
